Frequently Asked
Questions

Who runs BAE
BAE is run by a team of qualified electrical and mechatronic engineers with years of experience in both solar and commercial battery technology. Each project is individually managed by the project engineer.
What inverter technologies do you use in your solar installations?
BAE is the largest single installer of SolarEdge Technologies in South Africa. SolarEdge is the world’s leading producer of solar inverter technology. We can on instruction from the customer use old string technology which will be cheaper in the short term but will not have a yield guarantee.
Where are your solar inverters manufactured?
In the USA
What are the guarantees on you solar inverters?
The SolarEdge inverters have a standard 12-year warranty and can be upgraded to 20 years. Canadian Solar Inverters have a 10-year guarantee.
What solar panels do you use?
We only use Tier 1 solar panels.
Where are the solar panels manufactured?
Most solar panels are manufactured in China. Even the Canadian Solar panels found in South Africa come from China.
What are the warrantees on the solar panels
The panels have a minimum of a 25-year linear performance warranty and a 10-year product warranty.
What is an “Energy Yield Warranty”?
Where BAE designs, installs and operates a solar system it guarantees that it will produce a certain amount of energy per annum for the customer. Where these warranties are not met BAE will either add additional capacity to the system or compensate the customer on a like for like basis.
Is a solar system commercially viable without loadshedding?
Generally, yes, loadshedding will have a negative effect on grid tied solar returns in that the system closes down during loadshedding. Where mechanisms are installed to prevent the back feed of power to the grid from the solar system and the system is integrated to a generator or battery it will continue to operate during loadshedding.
Can a battery system produce acceptable returns without loadshedding?
The returns are dependent on the tariff structure of your utility provider. Tariffs have generally got to the point where battery power saved from your solar system or grid during low peak times can be used to offset high peak demand/ tariffs. One no longer needs to motivate the returns from a battery system on generator substitution.
Will BAE install residential systems?
BAE primarily designs, constructs, commissions and operates commercial scale solar and battery systems. Only large residential systems or where we install central systems for residential estates will be undertaken.
